About Pathankot

 

Pathankot is an ancient city and has historical significance.  Pathankot was ruled by a Muslim descendant of Raja Sayed Khan of Nupur State. From the end of 17th century, this region was the part of the princely state – Nurpur and was ruled by the Rajputs. In the great epic, Mahabharata, Pathankot is noted as Audumbar and in the ancient book of Ain-i-Akbari, it was noted as ‘Pargana Headquarter’. According to Sikh history,According to the famous historian - Cunnigham the name of Pathankot originated from the word ‘Pathan’. Post independence, Pathankot became part of Gurdaspur district and recently in 2011 it has become the headquarters of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. Rajput Rulers - During 17-18th century this region was ruled by Rajput rulers. Pathankot is world famous for its Military station – Mammon Cantt. It is the biggest Military base in Asia.

The food in Pathankot is mostly dominated by the Punjabi cuisine. Punjabi dishes like ‘dal tarka’, ‘chana masala’ ‘mattar paneer’ at a nominal price.Famous for its non vegetable items such as mutton tikka, mutton curry, chicken tikka, chicken curry etc.Selected spices added to the tea make it even more refreshing. Later they offer sabji-puri along with other Punjabi fare as breakfast.The dishes are generally a little spicy and oily, but are great to taste. To have the true flavor of the local cuisine, one should also order a glass of lassi. Indeed, breakfast in Pathnkot is never complete without that.Lichi juice of Pathankot is famous all over India. Since apples grow in plenty in adjoining Himachal Pradesh, apple juices are also a popular beverage here. The town is quite famous for its halwas and barfis.  Another favorite sweet dish in Pathankot is Palang Tod. It is sort of a milk cake and Banarsi Di Hatti.

Shopping in Pathankot is fun.Apart from the above mentioned shopping destinations, there many others shops in Pathankot selling different products.we would suggest that you look for some small wooden furniture. Indeed, the area has long been famous for wooden furniture of all dimensions.
It is to be noted that the area has always been famous for its timber trade. Even today, one can find many furniture shops selling wonderful pieces of furniture made out of deodar, fir, spruce and pine wood.
