About Pahalgam


Pahalgam is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. It is a popular tourist destination, and every year, many tourists visit Pahalgam. This world famous hill station is 45 km. from the District Headquarters at Anantnag and located on the banks of Lidder River at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level. Pahalgam is one among the five tehsils of Anantnag district and tehsil headquarters are located in the main town of Pahalgam.Besides tourist huts, several hotels in private sector have come up here and these hotels provide modern facilities to their guests. A number of treks in this region also begin from Pahalgam, as the 35 km trail traverses through pinewoods to the spectacular Kolahoi Glacier. Eating Out  

The best Kashmiri dish in Srinagar was only the Kashmiri Wazwan, Srinagar has lot more to offer. The culture and tradition of Kashmir is evident everywhere in its summer capital. The local delicacies and other culinary offerings of Srinagar are not things that are to be missed.

Here are few famous Kashmiri local dishes of Srinagar:
Wazwan :- Kashmiri Wazwan is the ultimate formal banquet in Kashmir. It is a royal multi course meal with thirty-six courses. In the wazwan, courses between fifteenth and thirtieth is preparation of meat that is cooked overnight by the master chef, Vasta Waza, and his retinue of wazas. Guests are seated in groups of four and share the meal out of a large metal plate called the trami.
Wazwan is popularly served at affluent weddings and parties. The most commonly served items are rista (meat balls) made of finely pounded mutton and cooked in a gravy, seekh kababs, tabak maaz, or flat pieces of meat.


Pahalgam is a well know for handicraft items like pashmina shawls, silk carpets, embroidrey suits and stoles. Also, you can buy very good walnut wood furniture, paper meshi items and saffron.

Best way to go for shopping is to go by your self. There are so many shops at Nishat Garden and at Shalimar Garden. At Nishat Garden, there is Nishat Shopping Complex, which is built by government for the manufacturers of Kashmir art and all the shops are registered with government of Jammu and Kashmir. This shopping complex has many shops selling handicraft items and there is also a society handicraft shop by the name of Heritage. They have fixed price policy, that is good for the tourists.
