About Munnar


Surrounded by lush green tea and coffee plantations, Munnar is a hill station situated in the eastern part of Kerala. The town is located at the converse of three mountain streams—Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kudala—and is known for its clean, neat, and brightly painted ambience. Munnar is situated near the Anaimudi Peak, the highest peak in the Western Ghats. The hills here are covered with a variety of flowers in bloom.

The staple diet in Munnar is fish and rice cooked in coconut oil which is totally Kerala style. You can taste coconut in almost everything you eat as most of the food is cooked in coconut oil.The weather and physical activity on these hills help build a raving appetite for a variety of snacks like vadas, bondas and bhajis savoured with a cup of tea or coffee.
Dishes cooked here are flavored with a myriad spices, such as peppers, clove and nutmeg, all grown locally. For the vegetarians try the Dosa, Vada, Idli, Appam and Thali meals on a banana leaf which are really yummy. And for the non-vegetarians it's a treat as you can gorge on the famous Keralan fish-curry and Kerala beef fry with Kerala Porotta.Even if you are not a foodie, the weather and the steaming hot and tasty food will make you one.




Shopping in Munnar is an interesting expedition.Different varieties of spices, homemade chocolates and different varieties of tea is sell in Munnar . Munnar is famous for its tea and spices plantations. The well known handicraft shops in Munnar are Johnson`s Wood Craft workshop, Kunjithanni, and Deeja Gift House, Misha Jn Munnar.In Munnar , Best things to buy are tea, coffee, spices like cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and pepper and definitely home made chocolates. you can buy local handicrafts and other knick-knacks that are easily available in the roadside shacks .The majority of bazaars are owned by the private owners but the presence of Government Shops can also be felt in the market. Munnar best buys are all its local products. In Munnar you can also buy luscious strawberries and locally produces spices but nearly all other so-called souvenir items, such as coir or metal ware, are from another part of Kerala.
