About Bharatpur

One of the finest bird parks in the world, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary also known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park is a reserve that offers protection to faunal species as well. Keoladeo, the name derives from an ancient Hindu temple, devoted to Lord Shiva, which stands at the centre of the park. 'Ghana' means dense, referring to the thick forest, which used to cover the area. Nesting indigenous water- birds as well as migratory water birds and waterside birds, this sanctuary is also inhabited by Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.

While many of India's parks have been developed from the hunting preserves of princely India, Keoladeo, popularly known as Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary, is perhaps the only case where the habitat has been created by a maharaja. Eating Out

The food here does not really stand out in terms of uniqueness or a vibrant food culture. Yet, the place will offer you simple and popular Rajasthani as well as North-Indian snacks and preparations. One can flatter their appetite with Pyaaz Kachori, Mawa Kachori, Aloo ki subzi and more. Also, most , most restaurants here close by 10:30 PM and hence might need you to schedule your dinner plans accordingly.

Shoping

Bharatpur may not be the ideal place for you if you consider yourself a shopaholic. But then, you can forego your hobby for a while if you happen to be in Bharatpur, and instead indulge yourself in exploring the historical and natural wonders of this city. Don’t miss the world-famous Keoladeo National Park.

And yet, we are not suggesting that Bharatpur has nothing to offer you in terms of precious souvenirs to take back home and proudly showcase them to your friends. The city is a good stopover for authentic jewellery items, marble carvings, antiques, etc. Also check out the beautiful textiles imported from the nearby Jaipur city. The fabric, the lovely designs and exquisite Rajasthani-style of these clothes can lure even a non-shopper to pick a few to keep as mementoes. Some artefacts also house some historic-styled and some nature-based paintings and generally don’t cost over INR 500.
